Google Play Store revenue up 2.5x, 90% comes from games

New numbers released by App Annie reveal that the Google Play Store now hosts nearly 1.5 million apps. Also, Google's mobile app store continues to grow in terms of size and revenue, boasting 2.5x times the revenue posted last year. In Q1 2014, the number of downloads on the Play Store was 1.5x as much as Q1 2013.

Also, App Annie reports that 90% of all revenue of the Google Play Store comes from games. From that, 98% of revenue belongs to "freemium" titles, not paid ones.

While a majority of revenue still comes from countries such as the US, Japan and South Korea, Germany, the UK, Brazil and Russia have posted some solid growths since last year.
