Rainforest Connection Uses Old Phones To Stop Poaching

Rainforest Connection is trying to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter for a project that will see old smartphones turned into anti-poaching tools. The organization has already shown that phones can be grouped in a network to detect heavy movement in an area. With this capability, the group is trying to stop poachers in Sumatra.

The Kickstarter, if it is successful, will enable to group to create the housing for the phones. Also, Rainforest Connection will use the funding to train rangers in the area to use the phones which will ultimately protect 100 square kilometers of rainforest.
