With the announcement of Nokia X2, Microsoft has also announced the new X Platform 2.0. Unfortunately, the company has done the same thing it did with the transition from Windows Phone 7.x to 8.0, as the Nokia X, X+ and XL won't get the new software update.
Apparently the reason for that are the necessary hardware upgrades, which aren't specified. Although the current Nokia X, X+ and XL users are not missing too much at the moment, in the near future there could be some intriguing upgrades that they will miss.
"Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won't be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months," says Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.
