Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), the branch of Sony that deals with the PlayStation ecosystem, announced a merger of its Japan and Asian divisions. Till now, the company maintained a Japan division to deal with its home market, and an Asian division handling markets elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region. The merger is part of a major restructuring strategy which could trim down the payroll, consolidate cash and assets, with the aim of making the organization more efficient. The unified SCE Asian division could operate out of Tokyo, led by company president Hiroshi Kawano (ex-Japan div. president), vice-president Hiroyuki Oda (ex-Asian div. president), among 17 more directors and heads, from both erstwhile divisions.
