BBM Music Shuts Shop from June

BlackBerry is pulling the plug on BBM Music, its less than two-year old music distribution service. Operations should discontinue on June 2, 2013. The last service bill will be generated for the month of April. The company is sending e-mails to that effect, to its customers, which go like this:

"BBM Music service will be discontinued as of June 2, 2013. For paying customers, April is the last month that you will be billed. In May, as your BBM contacts stop using the service, songs in your playlists will begin to turn grey and will no longer be available."

The e-mail goes on to describe how to uninstall the BBM Music app from your device, and suggests alternatives such as Rdio. BBM Music began operations in 2011, as a legal music sharing service that lets people pay for the service, download up to 50 tracks, and swap them with friends, to maintain a shared music collection of practically unlimited tracks.
