AVID Unveils Media Composer 7 And Pro Tools 11

The unofficial king of professional audio and video post-production has unveiled its new flagship products. AVID's non-linear editor (NLE) called Media Composer and digital audio workstation (DAW) called Pro Tools, have both to receive a major software revision since 2011.

Avid has followed the industry trend and dropped the price Media Composer 7 to $999 for the standard edition and $1499 for the Interplay Edition. Notable changes (besides the price drop) include the ability to work directly in hi-res without the need for transcoding/resizing and the option to include Symphony's color correction tools. Media Composer 7 will be available in the online Avid Store and from Avid resellers worldwide starting in June 2013. Customers who purchase Media Composer 6.5 now will receive a free upgrade to version 7 when it becomes available.

Continuing the onslaught of major DAW releases this year is Pro Tools 11. AVID is claiming the new version offers "exponentially more processing power than Pro Tools 10 using the same hardware." It also adds 64-bit performance that vastly increases the number of simultaneous virtual instruments. Pro Tools 11 will be available later in Q2 2013 priced at $699 for the full version.
