Scientists Create Robots That Can Build Themselves

Self-assembling robots is something that sounds like science fiction, but as is the trend these days, things of science fiction are frequently becoming real. Scientists at Harvard and MIT have come up with self-assembling robots that essentially construct themselves with simple materials.

With batteries, some paper, and a little bit of plastic, the robot can construct itself. The materials used in the robot only cost around $100, and while the robot cannot do a whole lot, it is still pretty amazing.

This robot, when activated, rises up on four legs and begins to construct itself over the course of four minutes. When that time is up, the robot can move around and the scientists think it could one day interact once that technology enables more advanced robotic capabilities.
