Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is the company's newest addition to a swelling lineup of tablets spanning the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note product lines. For those not sold on the Galaxy Note 8.0, the 8-inch tablet with S-pen (stylus), and an alternative to the iPad Mini; the Galaxy Tab 3 offers a more compact 7-inch alternative to the Nexus 7, the other popular tablet.
The Galaxy Tab 3 features a 7-inch 16:9 aspect ratio screen, with a rather paltry 1024 x 600 pixels resolution (169 ppi), which uses a conventional TFT panel. The tablet retains essential design elements from the Galaxy Note 8, in being a curvy slate with a trapezoid home key. Initially, the tablet will be offered in only the pearl white color option, which is glossy white with chrome highlights. The tablet measures 111.1 x 188.0 x 9.9 mm, weighing up to 306 g.
Predictably, Samsung is offering cellular-enabled, and WiFi-only variants. The cellular-enabled variant supports 3G HSPA+ up to 21.1 Mbps dn / 5.76 Mbps up. Both variants support 802.11 b/g/n WiFi (up to 300 Mbps), Bluetooth 3.0, GPS/Glonass, and micro-USB 2.0 HiSpeed. In the imaging department, you get a 3-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing one.
Under the hood are a 1.20 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and internal storage options that include 8 GB and 16 GB, both of which are expandable up to 64 GB using micro-SDXC. Powering the device is a 4,000 mAh battery. Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" is the OS at work, with the usual Samsung fare, including Hub, and ChatON messenger.
Samsung didn't announce pricing. The WiFi-only model will launch worldwide in this week, while the cellular-enabled one will launch some time in June.
