Sony has announced a new camcorder that comes with an interesting feature. The HDR-GW66VE camcorder comes as a waterproof device and can withstand being submerged to a depth of about 10 meters for up to an hour. Along with being waterproof, the device is also dust- and dirt-proof, shockproof to a drop height of 1.5 meters and can operate in temperatures down to -10°C.
The Sony HDR-GW66VE camcorder support video recording at a maximum resolution of 1080p (50 fps), in a choice of AVCHD, MPEG2 or MP4 formats. On the other hand, it is also able to take 20-megapixel pictures.
It is equipped with a F1.8 - F3.4 G lens, and a 4.6-mm back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor. Recordings are stored on a Memory Stick Micro or microSD/SDHC/SDXC card. The camcorder should be available as of June, but unfortunately no information on pricing has been released.
