BlackBerry announced its first device that takes its new BlackBerry 10 platform to the masses, the Q5. Built in the physical keypad candybar form-factor, BlackBerry Q5 was announced at a press-event in Orlando, USA. It has company CEO Thorsten Heins convinced that company has a big hit on its hands, particularly with the chatty younger generations. The phone is available in four color options, silver, black, pink, and red.
BlackBerry Q5 features a combination of a 3.1-inch touchscreen and QWERTY keypad to take input. BlackBerry didn't reveal specifics, but pointed out that the device will give buyers most of the BlackBerry 10 experience, including BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), Time Shift, Story Maker, and BlackBerry World (storefront). "BlackBerry is excited to bring a new BlackBerry QWERTY smartphone, the BlackBerry Q5, to our customers in selected markets around world," said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of BlackBerry. "The BlackBerry Q5 gives you the best of everything with its cutting-edge BlackBerry 10 functionality and a physical QWERTY keyboard. It is for youthful fans that are passionate, confident and bold, and it makes it easy for them to have fun, create, share and stay connected," he added.
BlackBerry Q5 is expected to roll out in Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia first, starting this July.
