No Android 4.2 for HTC One S: Company

HTC One may have changed the company's fortunes, but some of its darker aspects remain. Take for example, the complete and utter lack of long-term software support of flagship devices. In a statement released to MoDaCo, HTC put an end to hopes of its previous flagship device, the HTC One S, ever getting an Android 4.2 software update. The company stated:

We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.

Long term software support has often been a shortcoming with HTC. It was only recently, that HTC One got an update to Android 4.2. The HTC One S is less than 18 months old, and capped out with Android 4.1. In comparison, Samsung Galaxy S II, which launched well over 25 months ago, already has an Android 4.2 update in the pipeline, and Samsung even plans to even give it Android 5.0 "Key Lime Pie," whenever it's out.
