Google Maps For iOS And Android Updated With New Features

Google is pushing out a major update to the Google Maps, both for iOS as well as Android. The new update bumps the app version up to 7, but does a lot beyond changing a digit. The UI across both apps are now almost alike, with new features added to both platforms.

The new app is said to be faster, less cluttered, with a simpler UI and much faster rendering of the map view. Another new feature, which allows you to discover nearby stores to eat, shop etc., dubbed 'Explore', can be accessed by hitting the search box.

Google has upped its navigation functionality with real-time traffic, alternate routes to a location and on-the-fly rerouting. Both Android and iOS platforms get dedicated apps for phones and tablets. Your device needs to be running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and above to be able to run the new Google Maps.
