As reported by the Israeli Newspaper, Calcalist, Apple is currently in early discussions on acquiring the mostion-sensing semiconductor company PrimeSense. PrimeSense's technology is reportedly what was used in Microsoft's Xbox Kinect devices.
The report states that the tech giant is most likely mulling over a bid of about $280 million. If the acquisition goes through, it's anyone's guess what plans Apple has for the chips.
Eurogamer also reported back in 2009, when the Kinect was still only known as project Natal, that, "While Microsoft claims credit for the entire Natal design, the key component - the "brain" of the camera - actually appears to have originated from Israeli start-up company, PrimeSense, with Microsoft itself responsible for the optics and the software.
Microsoft is no longer sourcing chips from the Israeli company for its next-generation Kinect devices.
