Wargaming And Stardock Snap Up Atari IP

In the official court documents filed a few days ago by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York concerning the Atari bankruptcy auction, the list of successful bidders shows that both Wargaming Wold Limited and Stardock Systems are moving to acquire IP.

The successful bid on the Total Annihilation Franchise is held by Wargaming World Limited, the people behind the wildly successful World of Tanks. What's interesting about this, is that Wargaming acquired Gas Powered Games not too long ago, which is led by Chris Taylor who led the design of the original Total Annihilation game.

Wargaming also placed a successful bid on the Master of Orion franchise, with a back-up bidder of Stardock.

Stardock placed the highest bid on the Star Control franchise.

The way it works is that if the successful bidder is unable, or unwilling, to complete the transaction, the assets then may be sold to the back-up bidder. The debtors who are selling the assets are not required to sell to the back-up bidder if they feel the bid did not meet what they feel to be the value of the asset.
