In a blog post on its website today, the team behind Unity, the game development ecosystem, has announced the release of version 4.2 which will include three new platforms. Windows Phone 8, Windows Store Apps and Blackberry 10, as well as additional free tech.
Unity has basically doubled the number of mobile platforms that users of the free version are now able to publish to. Users can choose from Windows Phone 8, Windows Store Apps, Blackberry 10, iOS and Android. In addition Unity Pro users can use the Windows Store Pro deployment option without any charge.
They have also decided to make some of the tech that was previously only available in the paid version available for free. The free tech includes real-time shadows, text-based serialization of materials, scenes, etc. and NavMesh baking.
There are a lot more changes in this new version so if you are a developer, or thinking of developing on Unity, you will want to jump to the source link for all the details.
