Google Cut Android Malware In Half Last Year

Android malware was cut in half during 2014, Google says. In the company's Android State of the Union report, Google said that bad software installations dropped by 50% last year. Just 1 percent of all Android devices had a bad malware-infested application installed and that stat was just 0.15% for devices only installing from Google Play.

There is enough data available from Google in its report to fill up 40 pages. Google hopes to offer even more information about Android and its security next year.

We thought it was really important to put as much data as we could out there. I kind of apologize for the fact that it's 40-some pages, but hopefully next year it will be 150 pages and we'll get even more data. - Adrian Ludwig, lead engineer, Android security
