World Of Warcraft Continues To Bleed Players

In the same press release that Activision Blizzard announced their buyout from Vivendi, they also reported that the number of subscribers of the popular MMO game World of Warcraft current stands at approximately 7.7 million. That's down from last March.

Last march the subscriber numbers were reported at being approximately 8.3 million and the new numbers show that World of Warcraft is still in a steady decline in its user base to the tune of about 600,000. World of Warcraft is still, however, the number one subscription-based Massively Multiplayer Online game in the world, but is beginning to show its age.

At its height, World of Warcraft boasted approximately 12 million subscribers, which means that over 4 million players have moved on to other forms of entertainment. With the advent of many other MMOs hitting the market and with Free-to-Play becoming more and more popular, it remains to be seen just what Blizzard will do with its next MMO title.
