Reeling under pressure from Tencent's WeChat, WhatsApp added a unique new feature that simplifies voice messaging within IM chats. The latest version of the software is pushed through to all four mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry.
The feature involves a "mic" icon next to the IM text field. On clicking it, you can record a short voice message, that then appears within the chat thread as a bubble with playback controls, including a seek bar. The playback of voice message will switch from the loudspeaker to the earpiece instantly, when the device is held against the ear.
