The bets are off, Sony may have just torpedoed Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 (aka Galaxy Note III launch), by announcing that its next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1 "Honami" would launch on the same exact day, September 4th, 2013.
Without giving out details on time and place, Sony posted the final teaser of its #bestofSony Twitter campaign with a video presentation, which ends with a note pointing at the 4th. The move could dramatically split media coverage between the two product launches, even if they're at different times of the day, and it's only Sony that stands to benefit from that.
Xperia Z1 "Honami," from what we know, packs a serious wallop on paper. Its 5-inch 1080p display can be scribbled on with common pencils, the phone is waterproof, and among its most notable specs are a 21-megapixel camera capable of true 4K video capture, Snapdragon 800 SoC, etc.
