THX, a major audio technology company that was founded by George Lucas in 1983, will now be in the hands of Razer. Min-Liang Tan, Razer's CEO, says the deal allows his company to "reinforce" its leadership in gaming and "extend the brand" into other audio-centric markets.
Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision which THX has championed since its inception more than 30 years ago, - Tan
After the acquisition is complete, THX will operate independently and any change in operations shouldn't be very noticeable. It'll still run its audio and video certification programs.
Our focus has always been on ensuring that anyone can experience high-quality entertainment, regardless of their medium of choice. With Razer, we can now continue to strengthen our core lines of business while delivering excellence for our customers' ever-changing needs. As a stand-alone company, THX will work with Razer but will primarily continue to service our partners in the industry in order to deliver great products to consumers. - Ty Ahmad-Taylor, CEO, THX
Because of its audio expertise and Razer's involvement in the gaming world, THX believes it'll become a major company in the audio side of virtual reality.
