In an interview with Joystiq at PAX Prime, the Senior Producer at Firaxis Games, Garth DeAngelis, said that the expansion for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM: Enemy Within, is just too big to release as a download for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 consoles.
The expansion is only going to be released for the consoles in what they titled "The Commander's Edition", which includes the original game with the expansion included, because there are so many changes made in the expansion that it will have to be released on a disk so they could not just patch in the expansion as DLC like they are able to do for the PC version.
He commented that "These things are tied deeply into Enemy Unknown so we wanted to release [the Commander's Edition] as sort of the ultimate edition, with all the previous DLC on this one disc. It was either deliver it this way or not deliver it at all."
