SpaceX's first Falcon 9 launch since its September accident is expected to take place on January 8. The company has been grounded for five months due to a rocket explosion in Cape Canaveral that destroyed a Falcon 9 and a $95 million satellite.
The upcoming launch is for a set of Iridium NEXT communications satellites. A Falcon 9 launching from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California will bring those satellites into space.
SpaceX says it figured out the cause of the September explosion and has taken actions to address "all credible causes [of failure] and focus on changes which avoid the conditions that led to these credible causes."
