Motiv has introduced a sensor-filled ring that can track your steps, calories burned, average heart rate, activity type, and distance traveled. Known as the Motiv Ring, the wearable comes with a built-in goal of encouraging users to be active for at least 150 minutes each week.
The company was formed in 2013 and has been in stealth mode since then. It was created by former employees of NASA, Apple, Cisco, and Intel.
Motiv's Ring doesn't stand out any more than a typical ring. When you place a preorder, you'll receive a sizing kit filled with seven ring sizes to make sure you get the right model.
Included in the device are a 3-axis accelerometer, an optical heart rate monitor, a battery, and Bluetooth. The heart rate monitor only becomes active when you're engaged in relatively intense exercise.
It lasts 3-5 days per charge. Motiv says the Ring will ship in the spring and it's only compatible with newer iOS devices. It can be preordered now for $200.
