France To Have Driverless Trains By 2023

Driverless trains are going to be included in France's public transportation system by 2023 and a prototype of the technology will roll out in 2019. When the prototype first enters use, it'll be used to transport goods rather than people. The first human trips are set to occur in 2023.

SCNF, a French government-owned railway company, is focused on its "train drone" project, which is built around autonomous trains. When it starts transporting humans with the technology, those trips will go between Paris and the southeast of France.

Drivers are still going to make an appearance, but they'll mainly be there to intervene in case of an emergency.
