President Trump will meet again with leaders in the tech world, including executives from Amazon, Alphabet, and Apple, to discuss ways in which tech can be used to reduce government expenditures. The White House is under the impression that it could cut costs by a trillion dollars over the next 10 years through the use of technology.
White House officials said on a conference call on Friday that the administration believed there was an "economic opportunity" to save up to $1 trillion over 10 years by significantly cutting government information technology costs, reducing government costs through improved IT, leveraging government buying power and cutting fraud across government agencies. - Reuters
It appears the Trump administration is fairly dedicated to that idea. It has established two groups, the White House Office of American Innovation and the American Technology Council, to work on cost-cutting through tech.
The meeting is scheduled to occur today and is bound to be controversial due to the tech sector's largely negative stance towards some of Trump's proposals and actions.
