Peter Molyneux Not Impressed By GTA V Sales Revenue

Veteran game developer Peter Molyneux has never been one to be shy about stating his opinion. In an inspiration speech at Mobile Entertainment's Top 50 Innovators party, he commented that even though GTA V made $800M revenue in 24 hours, he was not impressed.

"The newly released Grand Theft Auto V is a game that's everywhere, you can hardly avoid it. It will achieve around $1 billion in revenue on consoles in just one month.", he then added, "Sounds impressive, doesn't it? No. That's not impressive."

If a game raking in $1 billion in its first month is not impressive, what exactly does Mr. Molyneux find impressive? He was happy to explain;

"What is outstandingly impressive is the success of mobile companies like Supercell, who has released games including Hay Day and Clash of Clans. Those games, which were released 18 months ago, are achieving revenue between $3 million and $5 million each day. That is impressive."

In a way he may be right. When you consider the marketing budget for GTA V was huge and that the hype for the game was everywhere, it should do very well when compared to the smaller budgets of other games. That being said, beating the previous one-day sales revenue record by $300 million is pretty impressive regardless.
