Beta Bot Malware Disables Anti-Virus Protection

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has issued a warning about a new type of virus called Beta Bot. The malware targets financial institutions, e-commerce sites and social networks to steal sensitive user information and disables anti-virus programs.

Beta bot includes an illegitimate, but real looking, Microsoft Windows message box which is titled with "User Account Control" and asks if the user will allow the program "Windows Command Process" to make changes to the computer. If the user allows it, the malware will steal data from the computer and change the computer's configuration settings.

If you see the message pop up, and you didn't launch a program or weren't expecting a program to perform modifications, do not authorize the program "Windows Command Process" to make any changes, and it is recommended that you run a full system scan with your anti-virus software with the most current updates available.
