Russian president Vladimir Putin recently told students, according to a report from state-run RT, that whichever country has the best AI will become "the ruler of the world." His statement publicly acknowledges the importance AI will have in the coming years, with countries vying to obtain the most dominance in the field.
It comes with colossal opportunities, but also threats that are difficult to predict...Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world. - Putin
Tesla CEO Elon Musk quickly jumped on that statement to share his perspective that the race among countries to create advanced AI could trigger WW3.
China, Russia, soon all countries w strong computer science. Competition for AI superiority at national level most likely cause of WW3 imo.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 4, 2017
According to Putin, "artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia, but for all of humankind."
