The director of Baidu's fairly large Silicon Valley artificial intelligence (AI) lab, Adam Coates, has left the company. His exit from Baidu was confirmed on his LinkedIn page. He spent his time managing a team of 50 machine learning developers and he specifically focused on utilizing deep learning to deal with natural language processing.
His track to Baidu had some similarities to that of Andrew Ng, a well-known Stanford professor and former chief scientist at Baidu. In Coates' case, he received a PhD in computer science from Stanford where he was a doctoral student of Andrew Ng.
Coates hasn't said where he plans to work moving forward. He joined the Chinese company in 2014.
