Earlier today, Google has announced that it is buying a big part of HTC's phone team talent for $1.1 billion to further help it with the development on new Pixel smartphones. Since Google only acquired certain employees, HTC kept is smartphone business and the company has now confirmed that they will release new phones in the future.
HTC will now focus on more streamlined product portfolio, meaning only its best and most profitable lineup will get new models. The good news is that flagship phones are part of that strategy and HTC has confirmed that it is working on the 2018 flagship model.
"This agreement also supports HTC's continued branded smartphone strategy, enabling a more streamlined product portfolio, greater operational efficiency and financial flexibility. HTC will continue to have best-in-class engineering talent, which is currently working on the next flagship phone, following the successful launch of the HTC U11 earlier this year."
