Apple plans to launch the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in India, in the first week of October, 2013. The two are beginning to show up on eBay's Indian site, where sellers are charging seemingly unreal prices. We don't believe the prices listed will end up too far away from post-launch prices.
Both handsets are listed under carrier-unlocked, factory-sealed versions only. The entry-level 16 GB variant of the iPhone 5C is priced at 47,500 Rupees (about $760), and the 16 GB iPhone 5S at at a whopping 69,900 Rupees (about $1,120). Sounds like yet another eBay ripoff? Don't be quick to judge. The iPhone 5 launched contract-free for roughly 68,000 Rupees, before settling down to 45,000 Rupees. The Indian distributors are positioning the iPhone 5C as a successor to the iPhone 5, and the 5S as a more premium device. Here's hoping the Indian consumer will see through that.
