Qualcomm Facing A $774M Antitrust Fine

Due to alleged monopolistic practices in the cellular tech industry, Qualcomm is facing a $774 million antitrust fine in Taiwan. Regulatory officials say the company has a monopoly position in the CDMA, WCDMA, and LTE chipset markets and it has allegedly abused that position.

The fine is coming from Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission. Along with the financial penalty, Qualcomm will need to report on negotiations with other companies twice a year.

It has allegedly failed to properly license its technology. Qualcomm disagrees with the basis of the fine and it'll request a stay on "any required behavioral measures," along with appealing the decision.
