Apple's 5th generation iPad may be less than a month away from seeing the light of the day, but its exact dimensions were leaked to the web, manufacturers of accessories to do their bidding. The numbers reveal a device with the same 9.7-inch screen, but compacting everywhere else.
To begin with, not only is the tablet slimmer, but also slightly shorter. It is just 240 mm long, compared to the 241.3 mm of its predecessor. Its more obvious dimension, the width, measures 169.48 mm, compared to 185.8 mm of its predecessor. The third, more interesting dimension, is thickness. It is slimmer, at just 7.5 mm, compared to 9.55 mm of its predecessor.
Sadly, we don't have weight figures at hand, but expect it to be lighter. We don't expect the 9.7-inch screen to have any different resolution from its predecessor, at 2048 x 1536 pixels, but do expect changes like the new 64-bit Apple A7 SoC, possibly higher system memory, TouchID, and of course, iOS 7 out of the box.
Apple is expected to launch the 5th generation iPad, or iPad 5 as it's being called, on the 22nd of October, 2013.
