Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter Campaign Hits The Mark

Frontier Developments Kickstarter campaign for a new space game has reached its goal of £1,250,000 with about two days left. The game is titled "Elite: Dangerous" and is set for release on the PC around March 0f 2014 and if they hit the stretch goal a Mac version too.

Elite: Dangerous creator David Braben of Frontier Developments, who co-wrote and co-developed the original Elite with Ian Bell and released it in 1984, thanked the backers on Twitter, saying, "It is truly exciting, touching, and really wonderful." As of this writing, more than 21,000 people have contributed £1,263,242 to the project.

The campaign will end about 48 hours from the time of this posting, on January 4th, so they still have some time to pull in more funding to reach the stretch goal which will include a Mac version and addition playable ships.

If they do reach the stretch goal, the Mac version should see daylight about 3 months after the PC release.
