Do you despise Android's default messaging app and are annoyed at Google for keeping to glued to it forcefully? Well, that won't be the case with Android 4.4 KitKat as the new OS update will give users to freedom to set a 3rd party app as the default messaging service. The specific changes which have been made are to SMS_DELIVER_ACTION and WAP_PUSH_DELIVER_ACTION (SMS and MMS respectively), which will only work with one app at a time starting with Android 4.4.
With Google's integrated SMS+IM capable Hangouts also expected in the next iteration of Android, it remains to be seen of the Mountain View company's solution offers greater flexibility and ease of use over Apple's legendary iMessage app.
