Acer Outs Iconia W4 8-inch Class Tablet Running Windows 8.1

It's here, the first modern 8-inch class tablet that's a Wintel. Acer's new Iconia W4 taps into the laxed minimum system requirements of Windows 8.1 to bring the power of an x86 architecture and familiar Windows environment to tablet-buyers.

The Iconia W4 features an 8.0-inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. Its 10-point multi-touch screen is fitted using Zero Air Gap technology. The tablet is an acceptable 10.7 mm thick, and weighs 415 g, which pushes it firmly into the 8-inch class Android tablet territory. In the imaging department, you get a combination of 5-megapixel primary, and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Under the hood is a 4th generation Intel Atom "Bay Trail" Z3740 quad-core processor clocked at 1.80 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and storage options that include 32 GB and 64 GB. Acer didn't mention battery life. The Iconia W4 comes with 32-bit Windows 8.1 operating system.

The 32 GB variant of the Iconia W4 is priced at $329.99, and the 64 GB at $379.99. Among the accessories available for the tablet include the Crunch Keyboard, a wireless Bluetooth 3.0-based keyboard; Crunch Cover, a micro-fiber and polymer-based magnetic cover; and Keyboard Cover, an accessory that combines the functionality of a cover and keyboard.
