Surface 2, Surface Pro 2, Accessories Begin Selling

Post Microsoft's uneventful Windows 8.1 launch, the company began selling its Surface 2, Surface Pro 2, and the barrage of accessories that go with them, in the US. The lineup begins with the Surface 2, a 10-inch class tablet running Windows 8.1 RT, running atop a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-based hardware, which starts at $449.99 for the 32 GB variant, and $549.99 for the 64 GB variant.

A notch above the Surface 2, is the Surface Pro 2 series, which really picks up the mantle from the original Surface. It runs standard Windows 8.1 atop Intel Core i5 "Haswell" based hardware, with up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 512 GB of SSD-based storage. The lineup starts at $899.99, and promises "the full PC experience" on a 10-inch class tablet.

Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 can be heavily customized, with accessories that push it either close to a laptop, or a desktop.

The lineup of accessories include the Touch Cover 2, a cover with a soft-touch keyboard and LED backlighting, which is priced at $119.99. Next up is the Type Cover 2, which is pretty much Touch Cover 2 with membrane keys that offer tactile feedback; priced at $129.99. The Power Cover builds on Type Cover 2, by offering an additional battery that steps up your tablet's battery life by 50 percent. It's priced at $199.99.

Also priced at $199.99 is the Docking Station for Surface Pro, a kit that converts your Surface Pro 2 into a compact AIO desktop, optimized for AC power, and featuring a few additional connectivity options. The Wireless Adapter for Touch and Type Covers lets you detach the two from the tablet, and run them over Bluetooth. It's priced at $59.99. Next up is the Car Charger with USB, which, well, does what its name reads. It's priced at $49.99. Lastly, there's the Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition, a highly ergonomic wireless optical mouse for Surface, priced at $69.99.
