In a recent legal blog by Distresses Debt Investing, it appears that Electronic Arts is listed as being interested in snapping up some of THQ's intellectual property when it goes into a "title by title" auction on January 22nd. Titles include many popular games.
Also circling around THQ's IP are rival publishers Warner Bros. and Ubisoft and a couple of other interested parties. With such popular titles as WWE, Saints Row, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War, and Metro on the auction block, it's not surprising that these big players are interested.
An initial buy-out attempt for $60 million by investment firm Clearlake Capital Group was blocked by the courts when the investors felt that the sale of the rights to individual titles could result in a much larger overall value for the distressed company. I agree with the investors on this one.
