In a shocking move that has left all our jaws stuck on the floor, Intel has opened their industry-leading fabrication and manufacturing foundries to producing ARM based chips. Altera, Intel's biggest customer (in terms of volume) will be building 64-bit chips in Intel's foundries. The chip (Altera Stratix 10 SoC) in question will feature four 64-bit ARM Cortex A53 cores, which Intel adds will be the first of its kind to be manufactured by any fab company. Using the new 14nm tri-gate manufacturing process, Altera's chips will unfortunately never end up inside Smartphones or tablets, meaning Qualcomm and others can loosen their tie knot just a bit.
