Amazon AutoRip Service Now Available

Amazon has introduced a new service called "AutoRip". It allows people who have purchased CDs to automatically have the MP3 versions added to their Amazon Cloud Player accounts free of charge. There are currently over 50,000 AutoRip albums available.

The new service require a customer to do nothing. If they have ever purchased a CD in the past or do so in the future, the option will be automatically enabled and they will be sent an e-mail notifying them that the option to download the music digitally is available.

Steve Boom, Amazon's Vice President of Worldwide Digital Music stated, "Since [1998], we've sold hundreds of millions of CDs to tens of millions of customers - a lot, a lot of music." and also mentioned that CD sales were the second product type Amazon sold after it initially started selling books.

If you've bought CDs from Amazon in the past, you may want to take a look to see if the MP3 versions are available to you. Amazon promises that more titles will be added over time.
