Our friends over at Titan Books were kind enough to send us another of their latest books to review. This time it's The Art of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag. It's 192 pages of Caribbean Island inspired concept art used for the game. If you are a fan, you want this.
We should first make something clear. If you are expecting a book that contains images of the graphics used in the game, this is not it. Okay? Good let's move on.
The book we received is a hard cover first edition that is approximately one foot tall by ten inches wide and almost an inch thick. The front of the dust jacket contains the title (of course) and sports an image of Edward Kenway walking ashore from a pirate ship (see included image). All of the pages contain glossy images and are on a heavy weight paper.
The book includes sketches, concept art and behind-the-scenes commentary from the artists. A portion of the art team travelled to Havana, Santo Domingo and Costa Rica in order to immerse themselves in the actual Caribbean locations in order to create a realistic experience in the game. As the forward of the book, by Brand Art Director Raphael Lacoste, states, "… we are not making a film documentary so artistic interpretation is key and what you will see in this book: a re-interpretation of reality to make it more memorable, epic and immersive."
Below are some images from the book so you can get a feel for what to expect.
The book is currently available at retailers and has a list price of $34.95 (US) , £29.99 (UK) and $41.00 (CAN), but you can find it for less than that if you do a little shopping.
We'd like to thank Tom Green from Titan Books for sending us a copy to review so that we could give you information on what you will be getting if you purchase the book.
