Blizzard Raises $2.3M To Aid Hurricane Sandy Victims

In late October, Hurricane Sandy devastated portions of the United States east coast which left many people in very desperate straights. Blizzard Entertainment came to their aid and raised over $2.3 million in aid to help those hit hardest by the storm.

Back on December 4th, Blizzard announced that anyone who purchased, or in their words adopted, the World of Warcraft pet Cinder Kitten would see 100% of the sale price go to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The offer continued until December 31st, and with a generous response from the WoW community they were able to raise over $2.3 million for the cause.

This is not the first time that Blizzard has donated sales to charities. They auctioned off hardware to help St. Jude Children Research Hospital, and also had a charity drive for Make A Wish Foundation to aid a young boy who suffered from a brain tumor. It would be great to see more gaming companies offer up in-game items to help charitable causes.
