MediaTek To Invest $1 Billion In Chipset Development

According to various industry sources, MediaTek plans to invest about $1 billion for chipset solutions in 2014. Although the company is known by entry-level chips for smartphones and tablets, they have some high-end chips like the first true octa-core processor which was announced in July this year.

Usually, MediaTek spends around 20% of its annual revenue on R&D, which should be somewhere between $5.09 billion USD-$5.53 billion USD. The Taiwan circuit designer is expected to launch six new processors for smartphones next year, including two octa-core CPUs, two quad-core, a dual-core and single-core processors with six more CPUs for tablets.
