Success of Commercial Space Program to Transport NASA Astronauts

Charles Bolden, NASA Administrator, announced Wednesday the success of the agency's "public-private" partnership with some American companies to transport NASA astronauts to the International Space Station for resupplying the space station. This is the next phase of the ability to contract with U.S. companies for the purpose of transporting NASA astronauts to the space station.

With just over two years since the end of the Space Shuttle Program the U.S. now has two different forms of space transportation that is capable of transporting different science experiments and supplies to the International Space Station.

This program has been funded by the Obama Administration and is said to be ready to transport NASA astronauts as soon as 2017. This program is being deemed the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS).
