Huawei G520 Lures Chinese Buyers with Quad-Core, IPS Screen Under $225

Huawei launched a mid-range smartphone that could help it score big in its home market of China, particularly during the Lunar New Year shopping season. The new G520 from Huawei offers a couple of killer features for its price-point: a quad-core CPU, and a 4.5-inch IPS LED screen, stuff that scrapes high-end territory. It is priced at the equivalent of US $224 (1399 RMB). It will be available from the 21st of January.

The 4.5-incher likely features a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution. Driving it is a Mediatek MT6589 SoC that packs four ARM Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.20 GHz. The cost-cutting begins with 512 MB of RAM, which is the bare minimum needed for driving its Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" operating system. In the imaging department, it packs a 5-megapixel primary camera. It is said to have a low-ish amount of fixed storage, but one that's expandable with micro-SDHC.
