The extremely popular multiplayer zombie survival mod for ARMA II called DayZ has now been officially launched as a stand-alone version on the Steam Early Access program. You can join in on the alpha testing massively multiplayer online fun on Windows PC for $29.99.
The game's story is that the world has been hit by some unknown type of infection which has wiped out most of the world's population, and it's up to you to make the best of things as you try to survive in the aftermath. The game pits you against basically everything as there are no save games, no checkpoints, no tutorials or anything to really help keep you alive. It's probably why the average survival rate of players is a little over an hour.
The developer, Bohemia Interactive, wants you to know that if you do not plan on being an active participant in the development community of the game, don't bother to buy it yet as the game still has a lot of issues and you could very well see game function interruptions.
