Huawei Ascend G615 Launched

Huawei launched a new bang-for-buck premium smartphone in Germany, the G615. Available contract-free through various retailers for around 299€, the 4.5-inch smartphone packs quite a few premium features. To begin with, it's one of few smartphones at its price-point with a quad-core SoC. It is driven by a 1.40 GHz Snapdragon S4. Its 4.5-inch screen features an IPS LCD panel with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, and an eye-pleasing 330 ppi pixel-density.

Its imaging department is led by an 8-megapixel primary camera with an LED flash, and a 1.3-megapixel front-camera capable of 720p video capture. The quad-core SoC is aided by 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal storage that's expandable to 32 GB with micro-SDHC. Sadly the fast CPU isn't backed by a feature-rich baseband chip, which only supports wireless broadband as fast as HSDPA 21.1 Mbps. Another sore point is Huawei's choice of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" over any of the newer versions of the software.
