Transform Your Xperia Z1 To A Google Play Edition Handset

Ever wondered as to why none of Sony's flagship Smartphones, the Xperia Z1 or the Xperia Z (and not a phablet, i.e. the Xperia Z Ultra), never became a Google Play Edition handset. Well, we still don't have an answer to that, but for those of you who wanted an Xperia Z1 Google Play Edition can now have one, albeit unofficially. Talented developer DooMLorD has ported the official Android 4.4.2 ROM for the Xperia Z Ultra GPE to the Xperia Z1. This was made possible thanks to Sony, who have released the device's kernel sources.

Still, the port is in its infancy, and many features such as the camera are still broken. However, the developer is confident that he can iron out all the bugs and release a perfect ROM in the near future.

Keep in mind, to transform your Xperia Z1 to a GPE handset, you will first need to unlock the device's bootloader.
