Gigabyte Upgrades Its Gaming Ultrabook, The U2442DT

Gigabyte U2442DT was unveiled back in March last year, but it was not as powerful as Gigabyte wanted to be. So the company decides to make it much more powerful and attractive by upgrading several key components. The U2442DT gets new Kepler graphics card along with touchscreen display.

Gigabyte's gaming Ultrabook comes with a 14-inch 1600 x 900 pixel touchscreen display. Under the hood of the 14-inch Ultrabook is a powerful Ivy Bridge Core i5 or Core i7 processor, with new NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M graphics card. It supports up to 8 GB of RAM. In addition, the Ultrabook features two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI and VGA ports, Ethernet and SD card slots. Measuring 339 x 233 x 18.5~21 mm, the U2442DT weighs about 1.6kg. Unfortunately, there is still no word on pricing and availability.

If you are looking for portable power in an Ultrabook, the U2442V should be at the top of your list. The design is solid and the insides are packed full of performance components. The backlit keyboard is a pleasure to type on, though there are some quirks with the trackpad that need to be ironed out. The SSD screams along with tremendously fast transfer speeds and the discrete Nvidia GT 640M graphics are capable of more than doubling graphical performance when compared to integrated HD4000. For every-day mobility we'd prefer something lighter and smaller, but the U2442V is a great desk-to-desk powerhouse, a role that is complimented by the unit's excellent port set.
