X3: Reunion For Linux Starts Public Beta Testing

Steam has announced that the Linux version of X3: Reunion has started public beta testing and is available to anyone who owns the game. X3: Reunion is a single-player space trading and combat game developed by Egosoft, and is the 3rd entry in the X universe series.

The original two games, XL Beyond the Frontier and X2: The Threat were well received, but due to a plethora of bugs, X3: Reunion met with mixed reviews even though the new engine it used allowed for far superior visuals than the previous two versions.

If you enter the beta and have problems, you can jump to the X Universe Forums to get support and update news on how the beta is going.

While opinions are mixed, I've spent many hours immersed in the X Universe and find the game play enjoyable and graphics stunning. I've been a science fiction fan all my life so I may be a bit jaded when it comes to these types of games.

As always let us know what you think in the comments.
